"It's lovely here you'll really like it "

Some answers to your questions:

Who are Jerry and Ben?  William Riley wrote a novel here in 1920 about two brothers called Jerry and Ben - set in Hebden Gill. It is very sentimental by modern standards but gives a wonderful picture of Hebden Gill. We have a handful of copies if you would like to borrow one.

Can I bring a bike?   It is fantastic for mountain biking here - especially if you like hills. Wonderful route straight from the cottages up Hebden Gill and round to Grassington - all off road.  Sorry we are still saving up for a bike shed - but bikes can be chained up to railings outside the cottages.

Are you Fiona? Check the following:  Surrounded by loud children?  Possibly shouting?  Head in washing machine?  Chasing sheep around carpark?  Usually attempting to do all these things at once.   You've found her.

Have you always lived here? Our family has lived in this hamlet since 1886.  Jerry and Ben's has been a guest house since the 1930s; Jerry and Ben's Cottages was started in 1971 by my mother.  I took over in 2004.

Do I need to bring....?   Yes to the following: Torch for dog walkers and late night returners from The Clarendon Pub in the village. Wellies, raincoats, Crocs and all things waterproof.  Right that's the summer delt with...

Is there a swimming pool?  Erhh no, but there's a beck (stream).  Its really cold!  The louder members of my family take a dip every summer.  Children's fishing nets are in each cottage.

Why is it so dark?  It's the country.  There are no street lights.  But that's good - it means you sleep really well.  Really.  The only things you'll hear at night are the owls.

Do you get snowed in?  Oh yes. Last winter my car did not move for a month.  We also have a landrover to ferry guests to and from the village.  If you are in any doubt please ring first!

That's all for now.

Fiona
